Two 26-storey concrete towers with 220 homes on the last remaining parcel of Port Moody’s Suter Brook Village, sharing a 40,000 square foot health and fitness club
The brief
The Grande is located in Port Moody’s award winning Suter Brook Village and is situated on the last remaining parcel within the village. The development consists of two concrete condominium towers (East & West) both with a total of 220 units within 26 storeys ranging in size from 595 to 1350 square feet. A 40,000 square foot health and fitness club exclusive to homeowners with indoor and outdoor amenity space is also featured. Each unit has 9’ ceilings, which climb even higher in select top floor homes, which make the units feel larger and spacious. The East Tower is located at the Southeast corner of the site with a 29-foot set-back to the Eastern property-line and a 20-foot set-back (average) to the Southern property-line. Our main design objective for the site plan was to maximize large areas of Public and Private open space, and in order to achieve this, both buildings were pushed out to the extremities. The tower design can be defined as a sculpted form comprised of mostly window-wall and metal cladding with large architectural features defined by strong metal cladded frames that rotate out to break the massing and directly address views. By varying the size and alternating the position of the balconies, patterns that help break up the massing and provide a dynamic expression are created. Although the two towers are not completely identical in looks, they reflect off of each other and utilize similar architectural styling.
