A 26-storey mixed-use tower crowned by an illuminated 30-foot sail in Uptown White Rock, with retail and offices at its base and views across Semiahmoo Bay
The brief
As a bold gateway and civic centerpiece for Uptown White Rock, Soleil stands as a landmark addition to the city’s skyline. Positioned on one of the community’s most prominent urban corners, this 26-storey mixed-use concrete tower is designed to anchor the high-density streetscape while celebrating its sweeping, uninterrupted views of Semiahmoo Bay, the Gulf Islands, and the North Shore Mountains.
The tower’s architectural identity is driven by clean, geometric lines and a rhythmic verticality that visually elongates the structure. To emphasize its unique maritime setting, the crown of the building features a striking, illuminated 30-foot structural sail. This architectural centerpiece animates the skyline at night, grounding the tower’s modern identity within White Rock’s seaside heritage.
At the ground plane, the design integrates a multi-layered pedestrian experience. The base comprises two levels of active retail spaces and an attached three-storey commercial office volume, enriching the neighborhood’s urban fabric. A double-height entry lobby welcomes residents with an expansive glass art feature wall, establishing a sense of refined luxury immediately upon arrival. This commercial and residential programming interfaces directly with a new public plaza and water features, encouraging active community gathering and prioritizing pedestrian permeability.
Leveraging its sunny climate, the building prioritizes seamless indoor-outdoor transitions. Deep, wrap-around concrete balconies extend the living space outwards, providing solar shading while maximizing panoramas. Crowning the podium level is the “Gateway Club”—an expansive 8,000-square-foot sanctuary of curated wellness spaces, featuring open-air fire pits, integrated hot tubs, fitness studios, and terraced lounges. Soleil sets an elevated benchmark for luxury coastal high-rise living, striking an intentional balance between structural scale and vibrant street-level activation.
