A 35-storey concrete tower completing the Oakdale Collection in West Coquitlam, with eight two-storey townhomes at its base and a top-floor Sky Spa
The brief
As the crowning jewel and final chapter of Strand’s premier Oakdale Collection in West Coquitlam, Kora stands as a landmark of sculptural sophistication, intentionally designed to bridge the gap between urban density and the lush, forested landscape of neighboring Burnaby Mountain.
The architectural language of the 35-storey concrete tower is characterized by a refined, high-contrast material palette. The exterior façade utilizes an alternating matrix of white and grey spandrel glass alongside clean window wall glazing and crisp, painted concrete elements. This rhythmic vertical profiling gives the tower a slender, elegant presence on the skyline. At the pedestrian level, the building is anchored by a robust base of ebony brick, grounding the structure and establishing an intimate, high-quality material experience for the community. Nestled into its podium are eight premium, two-storey townhomes that seamlessly transition the development into the surrounding residential fabric.
Central to the architectural programming is an immersive focus on holistic wellness and community connectivity. Kora features over 17,000 square feet of meticulously curated indoor and outdoor amenity spaces. The pinnacle of the building’s design is the panoramic top-floor Sky Spa and Sky Terrace, engineered to maximize unobstructed northern mountain and water views. Lower levels incorporate a multi-tiered, 7,400-square-foot landscaped podium rooftop, state-of-the-art fitness and yoga studios, a private golf simulator, and dynamic co-working environments.
Through its deliberate massing, timeless material selections, and deep integration of indoor-outdoor spaces, Kora represents a pinnacle of West Coast transit-oriented architectural design—delivering high-density multi-family living that remains intrinsically connected to nature.
