The brief
Conceived as a foundational anchor for North Vancouver’s vibrant, evolving Lions Gate Village master plan, Ebb & Flow is a multi-family townhome community designed to reflect the dynamic intersection of active West Coast outdoor living and sleek urban sophistication.
The architectural massing responds directly to its context adjacent to the Capilano River, broken down into a series of highly articulated, human-scale blocks. The exterior expression uses a contemporary interpretation of traditional West Coast modernism, combining rich wood-toned accents, dark charcoal frames, and expansive windows that maximize natural daylight. By alternating the rhythm of the rooflines, entryways, and private rooftop patios, the design avoids the monotony typical of high-density townhome developments, instead establishing a highly textured, visually engaging streetscape.
Central to the master plan is the integration of public and private spheres. The ground-floor site plan features pedestrian-first pathways, pocket parks, and central common courtyards that seamlessly interface with the broader village trail networks. Individual homes are designed to elevate everyday rituals, boasting wide layouts, large private garden patios, and panoramic rooftop terraces that provide an open-air transition between indoor sanctuaries and the surrounding mountain backdrop.
